Perth was first settled by the British in 1829.
Since its early days the former Swan River Colony has blossomed into a colourful, cosmopolitan city with a blend of old
& new buildings, a variety of
walkways, bridges & points of interest.

The Swan River colony experienced
initial difficulties including a shortage of labour, financial problems & poor
communication. To cope with such problems, the British Government sent convicts
to Western Australia from 1850 to 1868 to assist with development.
With a population of 30,000 in the 1880s, WA petitioned for
self-government, which it was granted right in time for the biggest economic
boom in the world at the time. The gold rush brought immigrants from all corners
of the world.

Perth is one of the friendliest, most
hospitable & isolated cities in the world.
The Western Australian capital is built on the banks of the Swan River
which streams down from the Darling Ranges.
It is famous for its younger lifestyle, lively nightlife, restaurants, cafes
& taverns & white sandy beaches.

Tourists commonly refer to Perth
as the "friendly city" Astronaut John Glenn called Perth the
"City of Lights" after his historic fly-over in 1962.

Most paint Perth as bright, fun,
friendly & "laid back". From outdoors to indoors, a fabulous
range of city & suburban shops will satisfy most.
Everything from traditional Australian gifts & garments, opals, Kalgoorlie
gold & precious diamonds to succulent local seafood, tender red meat, fresh
fruit & vegetables.
