Apollo Bay, 186 km south west of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road,  is a very typical seaside resort with lots of holiday accommodation.

The first major European settlement occurred in 1850 when timber cutters moved into the district. They cut timber & floated it out to ships moored off shore. This industry led inevitably to the establishment of a number of sawmills.

Apollo Bay is a holiday resort, fishing & farming village. Based on the edge of the Otway Ranges, it is a fantastic place to stay & an ideal base from which to explore the magnificent coast, waterfalls & rainforests. The town's wide, crescent-shaped beach is great for swimming, fishing & boating.

Besides some of the Great Ocean Road's best scenery, there is a string of swimming & surfing beaches between Lorne & Apollo Bay.
Apollo Bay has is a village by the sea, with a wide variety of cafes & restaurants.
