Los Angeles is California's largest
city & the second largest in the USA. Often called simply LA &
also nicknamed The City of Angels.
Los Angeles was founded September 4, 1781,
by the Spanish. It became a part of Mexico in 1821, following its
independence from Spain. In 1848 at the end of the Mexican-American War,
Los Angeles and California become part of the United States. Los Angeles
was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850.

& the diversity of the city.
Los Angeles is one of the world's centers
of business, international trade, entertainment & technology.
Hollywood is known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World,"

Downtown Los Angeles is full of activities including the areas of Olvera Street
& Chinatown & the Walt Disney Concert Hall & the Museum of
Contemporary Art (MOCA).

South Central and Compton
South Central is home to landmarks such as the Watts Towers, Shrine Auditorium
& Exposition Park. Exposition Park contaons the Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the California
Science Center & the IMAX California Science Center.
Long Beach
Long Beach is a large city in its own right. This beach community is best known
for the Queen Mary ocean liner now permanently docked here. There are many
outdoor activities for tourists to take advantage of, as well as museums &
beaches.
Pasadena
Old Town Pasadena provides a cluster of bars,
shops, cafes & restaurants. The city is home to the Rose Bowl.

Hollywood
The big Hollywood sign says it all, Hollywood is glitz & glamour. The center
of this busy area is Hollywood Boulevard with famous tourist spots
including Mann's Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame & the Kodak
Theatre.
West Hollywood is home to Sunset Strip. Here you'll find clubs frequented by
actors & socialites, as well as some of the city's finest hotels &
shopping

Beverly Hills and the Westside
This world famous zip code is synonymous with wealth, status & celebrity.
Rodeo Drive offers some of the finest & most expensive shopping in the
world.
Santa Monica and Bay Cities
In the heyday of Route 66, Santa Monica was the end of the line. This beachfront
community offers the best in entertainment on its famous Santa Monica Pier.
Carnival style food & games or take a ride on the ferris wheel for a
breathtaking view of the city.

A drive along the Pacific Coast Highway takes you
past beach after beach on one side of the road & million-dollar hilltop
estates on the other.
Venice just south of Santa Monica, is the city's home to all things eclectic
& bizarre. It offers a collections of cafes, bars, galleries & antiques
shops around.

San Fernando Valley
On the other side of the Hollywood Hills sits "The Valley" A suburban
area of cul-de-sacs, strip malls, funky shops & restaurants. Burbank &
Universal City are home to Warner Bros. Studio & Universal Studios.
