Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains of the USA. It is between California & Nevada.

Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction for both California & Nevada. Approximately two-thirds of the shoreline is in California.

Snow & skiing are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation. Mountain & lake scenery are attractions throughout the year. The Nevada side also includes large casinos.

Most of the ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region are on the northern end of the lake. Kirkwood, Sierra-at-Tahoe & Heavenly are located on the southern side of the lake.

The spring & summer months draw water buffs from boaters to swimmers to the clear blue lake & sandy beaches.

There are lake front restaurants all over the lake. SCUBA diving is popular at Lake Tahoe with some dive sites offering dramatic drop-offs or wall dives.

There are hundreds of hiking & mountain biking trails all around the lake. One of the most famous is the Tahoe Rim Trail, a 165 mile trail that circumnavigates the lake.

Gambling is legal on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe is surrounded by a series of small & medium size towns including:

Tahoe City - on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. One of the two main towns on the lake.

Truckee - Historic western rail road town on northwest of the lake.

South Lake Tahoe - near the border between California & Nevada.

Stateline - is just north of South Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Vista - on the North Shore.
