Recent Reviews July 2011 Whoever designed this building must have had fun. They were given a site that slopes between two streets just below the on ramps to the sydney harbour bridge. They had to be sure to include an awesome view of the Sydney harbour, Opera House & the Bridge. Just to add to the fun its built on an archeological dig site so the whole building is raised off the ground. The end result is an interesting building with two main buildings connected by a central building. There is a big lounge, dining, kitchen area with a small outdoor area to eat. Each of the buildings with the rooms have a big gap in the middle of them which goes to the ground. All over the building are pictures & stories about the history of the site & the area. My room was an a bit of a strange shape but still had lots of space & a separate shower & bathroom. Never used the shower as I discovered a large bath in a semi hidden bathroom in another part of the hostel. The best part by far is the roof deck, a great place to hang out & an awesome view of the harbour.
Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel - Townsville July 2011 I only spend a night here as I wanted somewhere close to the Train Station but next time I am Townsville I will stay again. Its a good location in a quiet street halfway from the cbd & the train station but close to everything. The staff are friendly & helpful & crack some good jokes. I did not use the kitchen as I went out for dinner but it all looked clean & tidy Room was nice & had a small fridge but not any lockers for valuables. There are a couple of decks to sit around on & a good size lounge/foyer to relax
Bungalow
Bay Koala Village - July 2011 I was looking forward to seeing Magnetic Island but on the day I had a dose of the flu. After a taking a train, bus, ferry & another bus to get to the far side of Magnetic Island I was not in a good mood. The staff at Bungalow Bay were great, very friendly & put me in a better mood in no time. I was booked for an 8 bed bungalow - basically an A frame building - but they were full so I got moved to a 6 bed one. The 6 bed had lockers which was great as the 8 beds did not. The Bungalow's are cool, lots of space & also have shower & toilet. The shower was hanging down so it was like being rained on, lots of fun. There is a campers kitchen as they also have a camp ground but I just went for a short walk to Horseshoe Bay ( something to do with the shape of it ) There is a small general store, a pub, a fish & chip shop & a couple of other place to eat. The entrance to Bungalow Bay is a big open area with solar panels on the roof. apart from reception that also have a bar & provide meals there. There is a pool but it was a bit cool for that & the main feature is the Koala park which is a must see.
