This is plane guy heaven. I have been to a few aviation museums & seen most of the planes I have wanted to see but never in the same place. Right as I walked in there was a complete Catalina Flying Boat - something I have waited a long time to see. I would have been happy just with that but there is heaps more to see. The website has a full list of all the aircraft & exhibits. There are displays of aircraft equipment & articles from the history of Australian Aviation. There are some great displays about people in Australian Aviation from the early days to present time. The staff are great to chat with & I believe there were some guides available but I like to see things for myself. Out the back there is a second hanger with some awesome aircraft. The Spitfire is a Mark 22 introduced just after the end of the Second World War. You can get right up to the cockpit & see inside. The Dakota just fits in the back of the hanger, I have seen one of these fly but never been able to see inside one before - long arms help to take a great photo. The icing on the cake was the Lancaster. You can walk under it & see the bomb bay, along with an uncovered engine. There is a walkway above the front of the Lancaster. The best part is having a look in the side door to see how cramped & difficult it is to get around inside the Lanc. The museum is a short drive from the Perth CBD & close to the highway. There is also information in the train & bus options to get to the Aviation Heritage Museum
