Government House was the private residence of the Governor of New South Wales until 1996. It is still a working house but is open to the public for free tours at set times - check the website. The tour takes an hour & covers the history of the building & the people who lived there. The current Governor still uses the house for meetings & it is used for public functions because of this the taking of pictures in the house is not allowed. This is a shame because each room has been set up in a different style, some old some modern. After your tour be sure to take a walk around the gardens & enjoy the views of Sydney Harbour.
