Canterbury Museum is a short walk from the centre of Christchurch & right next to the Botanical Gardens. There are a series of different displays covering the history of New Zealand & the Canterbury area. One of the best is the recreation of an early Christchurch street along with pictures & items from the early history of Canterbury. Other displays include a Chinese history section & an interactive area for kids to play along with stories about famous locals. Upstairs there is a series of displays on the history exploration of the South Pole & the Ice. A new display I had not seen before was the famous Paua Shell house recreation. There is a short movie to explain the amazing story behind it. As always there is a short term exhibition in the main hall, the current one is centred around the 125 anniversary of the St John Ambulance service. Be sure to have a play on all the cool toys & get your photo taken with them.
