Wanneroo
Botanical Gardens & Mini Golf
Awesome - this picture is just the start. Wanneroo Botanical Gardens is one of those great spots that all the locals know about & the rest of us find out about from our friends when we come to visit Perth. Check out the link to the website above to see the history of the gardens, how what was an old farm became a labour of love that is shared with the world. The gardens are just amazing, peaceful walks, water falls, fish filled lakes (no fishing rods please) & a fantastic variety of plants. I do not have a green thumb but I can appreciate a beautiful garden setting & all the work that has gone into & continues to be put into it each day but the staff. Leapfrogs Cafe is located near the entrance to the gardens. They offer everything from a coffee & cake on the porch to pizza's & entertainment in a tropical setting indoors. There are two options for mini golf, a full on course around the gardens & a crazy version I have not heard of before called Billard mini golf. The rules are simple, while playing on the smaller holes you must bounce the ball off the side rail before it goes in the holes. I am told these rules are often "modified" depending on the players skill or lack off. I got a hole in one on the 4th hole but the rest of the time the score was a little higher. If you look at the picture of me with my club it looks a little "bent" to me. FYI - if you can't find your ball after you sink it on the 8th hole look down to your right. This mini golf thing can be hard work so there is an option to take a break around the 10th hole & watch the world go by. Take a few minutes to enjoy the surroundings, they are awesome!! The main course is just great fun, one of the best mini golf courses I have played on. I am told it is designed to world mini golf competition standards. I have a few pics of the actual holes & the path you take around the course. If all this wasn't enough the gardens is also a popular spot for weddings. There are several different locations that can be used for different size wedding parties. They have several weddings during the week & up to 3 on a saturday during the wedding season. The staff can help with everything you need. Be sure to hold onto your score card after the game, even if your score is as high as mine. There is an offer on an ice cream & a free pass for The Maze The Maze 32 acres of gardens and parklands, including Perth's largest maze (2500m2), Koalas, Kangaroos, Emus, Mini Golf, Cafe and much, much more www.themaze.com.au
