Delhi is the capital of India, the largest metropolis by area & the 2nd largest by population. Delhi is the 2nd most used entry point into the country. Built on the banks of the Yamuna river Dehli is a blend of the historical past & the growing future. 

After the British East India Company gained control of much of India during the 18th & 19th centuries, Calcutta became the capital. George V announced in 1911 that the capital was to move back to Delhi. 

New Delhi, was built to the south of the old city during the 1920s & when India gained independence from British rule in 1947, New Delhi was declared its capital. New Delhi houses important offices of the federal government, including the Parliament of India.

Delhi has grown to be a major cultural, political, & commercial center of India.
